I wanted to share with you a memory of my friend Steve Jobs, a memory that in the days since his passing has come to represent how great of a guy he was, and how good he was to me.
I first met Steve in 2003, over the phone, when I cold-called him to tell him I was a devout fan of all things Apple…
Aww! I had goosebumps reading this.

I have learned (via twitter) the resignation of Steven Paul Jobs, a.k.a. Steve Jobs, a.k.a. CEO of Apple Computer, Inc. And I was so affected in a way I didn’t expect and couldn’t explain. I was never close friends with Apple, until just recently. I googled up details about his resignation and I found a text of his letter here. It states the following:
August 24, 2011 06:34 PM Eastern Daylight Time
Letter from Steve Jobs
CUPERTINO, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.
I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.
As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.
I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.
I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.
Steve
Right after I read the first paragraph, I got goosebumps! So I research further about him. I stumbled upon this page posting his Commencement address at Stanford University in 2005. It sounded familiar to me but I couldn’t remember where and when I read it, maybe when I was preparing my own speech early this year for the graduates of my secondary school.
[EDIT]
[\EDIT]
I’m in the middle of his speech right now and I couldn’t help myself to share with you his story. You start to read as I continue where I stopped. So here it goes:
Stanford Report, June 14, 2005‘You’ve got to find what you love,’ Jobs says
This is a prepared text of the Commencement address delivered by Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer and of Pixar Animation Studios, on June 12, 2005.
I am honored to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. I never graduated from college. Truth be told, this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That’s it. No big deal. Just three stories.
The first story is about connecting the dots.
